Special Agricultural Zone – Pokkali
Agronature has identified, built, and mobilised, communities and cooperatives that farm Pokkali rice, by establishing a ‘Special Agricultural Zone’. This led to the protection of the farmland, increased funding by the government, creating diverse value-added products of Pokkali, and creating diverse marketing avenues for Pokkali.
Three districts are primarily engaged in the farming of Pokkali, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Alappuzha. 22 sites in Ernakulam district, 10 sites in Alappuzha district, and 6 sites in Thrissur are currently under cultivation. The years 2017 and 2018 have had a consistent harvest, but in the year 2019 this has been significantly impacted.
Special Agricultural Zone- Hill produces
Horticulture produces- fruits, vegetables, and spices; floriculture produces, forest produces, for eg. honey, are our main hill produces. Munnar, Vattavada, Kanthallur, Devikulam, Rajakad, and Konnathadi are some of the panchayats we work with. Most of the hill zones of Kerala require sustainable agricultural interventions. Recognising this need, since 2016, Agronature has been helping develop the quality of life of farmers in these areas. Our Intervention involves, helping reduce the cost of production, increasing the scope for value-added products, working collaboratively with the state department of agriculture and its officers to create an outcome that is beneficial to the farmers and the community in general.
Integrated Agricultural Ecosystems
(Private / Public / Private Public Participatory model)
Agronature IAE model involves streamlining of organisation, project identification, social mobilisation, technical arrangements, human resource management, financial mobilisation, total agricultural physical solution integration- backward and forward linkages of agricultural activities.
Some of the organisations we work with using the above model are the following:
- Cooperatives
- Farmer Producer Company (FPC) / Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO)
- NGOs
